Guess the world has gone bonkers.Media being the forerunner.
Case in point being the media coverage of State Dinner hosted by the US first family to the Singh parivar(read sangh parivar).Gatecrashers hopped their way into the front page of the top Indian newspapers. The space given to that stray incident is so disproportionate ,in that the real issues were visibly cornered. I was jolted to see it.I had heaved a sigh of relief when i saw that Shilpa Shetty’s marriage pics did’nt rule the pages the preceding day,but the very next day i was disillusioned to see the gatecrashers crashing into the front pages of Indian newspapers.
This apart, the other news that splashed all over the International section of the newspaper was..well food. What was on the menu? What PM Manmohan Singh ate? What his wife ate?She sat beside whom….etc..Who cares if the vegetables used in the food are “white house” grown by the US’s First Lady?
Sorry, but we are just not intersted. If you can get the readers intersted enough to read such phony stuff, use it to spotlight the real issues.People need to know about them. For example, climate change. How many of us know there is going to be a world meet at Copenhagen to discuss climate change?less than 3%..You give it as small a space as crane’s legs with lousy reporting about the event..And you expect your reader to read it..seriously,give me a break.
Moral of the story:Newspapers should embellish key issues with the same finesse as they exaggerate those goddamn starry events.
